Elements and Performance Criteria
- Maintain a physical conditioning program
- In consultation with relevant personnel, identify a range of techniques to prevent injuries and improve stamina, strength and flexibility
- Set realistic physical conditioning goals aimed at improving own dance technique
- Identify risk factors that may inhibit the achievement of goals and seek professional advice as required
- Take fatigue and personal limitations into account when undertaking physical conditioning program
- Observe safe dance practice by performing warm-up and warm-down activities in conjunction with dance activities
- Wear appropriate clothing and footwear when undertaking exercise regime and practising dance technique
- Use practice sessions to increase level of expertise in tap dance technique
- Perform dance centre amalgamations with confidence, precision, style and grace
- Choreograph short pieces using a wide variety of steps and well-planned floor patterns
- Use creativity, versatility, individuality and originality when performing exercises and dance routines
- Incorporate well-developed understanding of rhythm and musicality into performances at training sessions and rehearsals
- Experiment with improvising steps and routines
- Ensure that flow and interaction with other dancers are smooth and well-timed
- Maintain expertise in tap dance technique
- Practise and refine combinations of complex movements and routines
- Maintain and update knowledge of tap dance history and terminology
- Use feedback from others to identify and develop ways to improve own tap dance performance skills
- Regularly view performances by industry practitioners as a way of sourcing new ideas, identifying trends, maintaining motivation, and improving own technique
